Frequently Asked Questions

Do fifth-graders march at All-City Band Night?
No.  Fifth-grade students are not involved in All-City Band night.  It is for students in grades 6-12 only, but fifth-graders are encouraged to go watch.
Does my child perform in Band-O-Rama?
No.  This annual 5-12 band event was cancelled in 2006 due to safety concerns.
Will my child have "early band" in sixth-grade?
No!!  Full band meets during the school day at Parkview.
What do I do with our instrument if my child switches to another instrument?
If you have a rental instrument from Rieman Music you need to return it to the store for the new instrument.  If you have purchased your instrument you will need to sell it and obtain the new one through rental or purchase.
We cannot attend the instrument display night at my child's school, what do I need to do?
We urge you to attend one of the other meetings/locations even if your child does not go to that school.  All information will be the same and a band director will be there to answer any questions you may have.  Please contact your band director for handouts and important information that will be presented in the meeting if you still cannot attend.  You are welcome to go to Rieman's Music at any time and rent an instrument.
What is the dress code for the concerts?
Students are encouraged to wear dress-up clothes for the fall concert.  Examples might be: nice pants, skirts, button down shirts, sweaters and/or dresses.  For the spring concert we traditionally wear class T-shirts and jeans.
We rented an instrument from the school (tuba and baritone) does this mean we keep it for my child's entire band career?
Your band director will ask that all school-owned horns be returned the last month of the school year.  Your child will be issued another instrument at the middle school in the fall.
What is the difference between early band and band lessons?
Band lessons are held once a cycle in like instrument groups of 2-3 students.  Every student involved in band will have a group lesson once a cycle for the entire school year.  These are held during the school day.  Early band or full band will begin towards the end of October in addition to the band lessons.  Early band meets two days out of the cycle at 7:15-8:00 AM.  Every student involved in band regardless of which instrument they play will rehearse together on these mornings.
