Please take the time to think about and discuss the possiblity of participation in band with your child over the summer. 

 

Band offers an understanding and practice of many skills other than the technique required to play a particular instrument.  Learning an instrument requires the discipline to practice, commitment to attend rehearsals, cooperation and teamwork.  Band teaches many skills that are valuable and contribute to success in many areas of life.

 

 

The band director will schedule a time to speak with all fourth grade classes.  During this time your child will get a brief overview of the band program, get to meet the teacher, hear demonstrations of the instruments from the current fifth grade band members and get questions answered. 

 

All students will get to try at least three instruments.  Students may choose from: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and percussion.  This is the most important part of the process.  We want to help your child find an instrument that they will enjoy and be successful playing.   

 

After instrument testing is completed, each school will have an instrument display/informational night for parents.  At this time we will answer any additional questions and you will have the opportunity to rent an instrument.  We usually begin band lessons by the first week of September.
